Outside School Hours Care Jobs FAQs

Can international children’s services qualifications be used for OSHC Educators?

Please submit an application online to have your children's services qualifications assessed to determine if they are equivalent. This applies to both international and Australian qualifications that do not fall under pre-approved qualifications.

Can I be an OSHC educator if I’m studying teaching/education at university?

Absolutely! Being an OSHC educator is fantastic work experience for university students, allowing for a healthy work/life/study balance — and sometimes our student OSHC educators discover they prefer working with children outside of a structured classroom environment.

Can I put in my availability based on family or study commitments?

Yes, the Y is flexible in scheduling shifts based on your availability. For example, if you have class every Monday afternoon or need to care for your own children on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can relay this to your OSHC Coordinator.

What is the earliest and latest you work?

Each OSHC location has slightly different opening hours, but typically your work hours will be between 6:00am – 6:00pm. Shifts are generally in three hour blocks in the morning and afternoon, while children attend school during the middle of the day.

What room for career progression is there?
There is lots of room for growth and career development working in OSHC. Educators can work towards Assistant Coordinator or Coordinator roles. Because the Y is a large organisation, development also extends to management positions outside of the OSHC classroom, such as Area Coordinators, Business Development roles, administration and so much more.
